How to Treat Warts

by | Jul 6, 2021 | Verruca Wart Treatment | 0 comments

Warts are noncancerous growths on skin that are caused by a virus.

Each person’s body responds differently to the virus because of their own immune system, so not everyone will develop a wart.

Those that are immunocompromised, or the young are more prone to warts because their bodies do not have sufficient immunity or have not yet developed immunity to it.

The appearance of a wart depends on its location on the body and the thickness of the skin.

On the feet, warts usually appear raised with a rough surface, kind of like a callus, but warts present almost cauliflower-like, with pain when squeezed. They can cause pain whilst walking or standing if it on a weight bearing area of the foot.

Warts can be spread or be passed onto others by close contact to another person, or through footwear, towels or clothing.

The virus can spread if the tissue area has been irritated, or via shaving or exposing the skins surface (biting or itching). Having damaged or fissured or wet skin does increase the risk of infection.

Over time the body does recognise the need to rid itself of the wart, but this could take a very long time.

Even though warts are harmless, you may want to seek treatment to reduce the risk of it multiplying or passing onto another part of the body, or worse passing it onto someone else.

There are many different treatment options, here at ProHealth Podiatry we offer debridement with the use of Salicylic Acid or Silver Nitrate as well as Swift Therapy.
