BraceNFix is a new technology introduced at ProHealth Podiatry to treat ingrown/involuted toenails using a substance that hardens on the nails allowing it to reshape so that a “normal” nail growth can occur.
It is relatively quick and pain free, providing an alternative for these patients that do not want to have a nail wedge resection (surgery), those that are diabetic, pregnant or high risk.
How does the product work?
A white composite is applied to the nail and cured using an LED light.
Once hardened, the material acts as a nail brace.
Usually, a follow up treatment is provided in 6-8 weeks unless required earlier. Remember that BraceNFix remains on the nail until the nail grows out and is adjusted by the podiatrist to achieve a different nail shape.
BraceNFix requires no injections and daily activities can resume straight after treatment.
Why is BraceNFix better in our opinion to traditional nail bracing?
Traditional Nail Bracing can be painful, especially whilst wearing shoes, or because on a foreign object attaches beneath the nail causing inflammation. Unlike the traditional method of nail bracing, there are no wires involved.
What should I do or know before my appointment?
Generally, a normal treatment duration is required, lasting anywhere between 15-30 minutes. You are required to remove all nail colour before attending the consult. This treatment is not suitable for all types of involuted nails or nails that have been detached from the nail bed or has a large percentage of fungus present.
Things to Consider:
Better fitting footwear with a wider toe box is always recommended. Avoid water for up to 24 hours on the toe.
Can I use my Private Health Insurance for BraceNFix?
Yes, Private Health Insurance covers BraceNFix. Please check with your insurance about your cover, the Item Number is F344
