The arch is the area between the ball of your foot and your heel. Some people have higher than normal arches. We then medically term them as having a Cavus foot type. Having a high arched foot is less common than having a flat foot type.
Like everything, if asymptomatic we tend not to over correct here at ProHealth Podiatry. But for some people, Cavus foot types do cause discomfort or pain as time progresses.
Some discomfort may present as:
- Finding shoes that fit
- Pain in the balls of your feet
- Plantar fasciitis/ Heel pain
- Clawing or hammer toes
- Ankle pain/ instability
- Fractures of one of your ‘knuckle’ bones
- Shin splints
In some cases, having a higher arched foot may be a result of something neurological, such as a stroke or Charcot Marie tooth disease.
How do we treat high arched feet at ProHealth Podiatry:
- Orthotics
- Bracing
- Icing
- NSAIDS
- Compression bandaging/ Night Splints
