Does Your Foot Hurt on the Outside?

by | Oct 12, 2022 | Uncategorized | 0 comments

Peroneal Tendonitis is pain palpated to the outside of the foot. It may present with swelling or redness. Patients can have a history of chronic ankle sprains or rolling of their ankles. Sometimes, in clinic, the swelling is that bad, that it appears like a ball protruding from the side of the foot.

To resolve the issue or have a reduction in pain with treatment a timeframe of 6-8 weeks is required, if left untreated then this time is usually much longer.

Symptoms can present due to incorrect footwear or a walking pattern that has changed due to injury, overuse, or increased training.

Treatment usually involves: PRICEMM (protection, rest, ice, compression, elevation, modalities, and medicine. Sometimes a lateral heel wedge is required as well as strengthening exercises, compression socks, taping, shockwave therapy or laser therapy.

Remember, that if left untreated pain often becomes unbearable and weight bearing, or daily activities can become quite a chore taking that much longer to heal.

Prioritise yourself, remember that only whilst keeping well can tick all those things on the to do list!
