Nails that have fungus generally appear a little funny meaning they are thicker and often discoloured and sometimes flaky. Whilst fungus on the nails is difficult to get, getting rid of it would take perseverance.
Options usually include oral medication, as well as topical medication or laser.
Here at ProHealth Podiatry we offer a solution that is fast and effective and have an outstanding success rate of higher than 85%, that being the lunula laser machine.
However, getting back to the issue at hand, most cases is you have chosen to go down the path of oral medication. You could go on these for periods between 6 weeks to 12 months depending on severity and location of your infection. Your GP would check via a blood test if your liver would be able to metabolise such a thing.
If you chose to go down the route of a topical product, these differ greatly, you could get an oil/tincture or something over the counter such as daktarin/loceryl. Some require a daily application whereas others a few times a week. To be able to be successful, the instructions on the bottle need to be followed very closely.
At ProHealth Podiatry we understand the inconvenience of having fungal nails. We will teach you how to tackle your fungal nails hands on and provide you with information to take home to ensure that we are both successful with treatment regardless of whether you choose to go down the route of laser. We provide you with a care package of all the necessary products, placing you at ease, that treatment could begin that very day.
